This handwoven Q’ero Unkuña, also called Unkuna or despacho cloth, is a traditional ritual cloth from the Peruvian Andes. It is ideal as a base cloth for your personal altar, your mesa or for despacho ceremonies.
With its clear two-colour symbolism, the Unkuña stands for duality, balance and connection – central elements of the Andean worldview. In the Q’ero tradition duality is not understood as opposition but as the interplay of complementary forces: light and shadow, masculine and feminine, matter and spirit, nature and the spiritual world.
The Unkuña can be understood as a threshold between the material and the spiritual level. It is used to place ritual objects consciously, to protect them or to bring them into a ceremonial space.
